Our Director of the Social Area, Violeta Domínguez, reflects on how the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and the refugee crisis have accelerated the need to raise higher levels of development funding to advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The complexity and magnitude of these crises are reflected in the latest data on Official Development Assistance contributions. In 2021, the Development Assistance Donor Committee (DAC), made up of the 30 members of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), contributed more than $178 billion to Official Development Assistance (ODA). This figure is 4.4% higher than the previous year due to the effects of COVID-19, but represents only 0.33% of the Gross National Product of all contributing countries.
