On 18 October 2023, GATE Center inaugurated its new headquarters in Beijing, called GATE Center Asia. The event was chaired by Feng Yi Zhang, President of GATE Center Asia, and was attended by Daniel Romero-Abreu Kaup, President of Gate Center, and José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, Prime Minister of Spain (2004-2011) and Chairman of the Advisory Board of GATE Center. In addition, the ceremony included the participation of various Chinese and international personalities, including Zhongping Feng, Director of the Institute of European Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences; Rafael Dzcalla de Mazarredor, Ambassador of Spain to China; and Miguel Ángel Moratinos, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations. As special guests, representatives of the European Union Association of China and the Quanzhou City Authorities were also present.

The event’s agenda alternated between speeches by GATE Center representatives and other authorities, networking opportunities and musical performances that fused traditional Chinese instruments such as the guzheng with the violin, offering a blend of Asian and Western sounds. Attendees also enjoyed a cocktail reception and toast after the official ceremony.

The opening of this Beijing location represents a significant step forward for the development of cutting-edge global research, adding to the efforts of other GATE Center locations.
