Liu Jianchao meets with Spanish Ambassador Betanzos

On 16 April, Liu Jianchao, Minister of the Foreign Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), met with Spain’s Ambassador to China Betanzos.

Ahead of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Spain, a successful meeting was held between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Sánchez as part of an official visit to China. The meeting pointed out the direction for the development of China-Spain relations. The Asian state is willing to work with Spain to implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries, adhere to mutual respect, close communication and dialogue, deepen humanistic exchanges and expand mutually beneficial cooperation for the betterment of the two countries and peoples. China appreciates Spain’s positive and friendly policy and regards it as an important partner linking its diplomatic relations towards the European Union and is willing to jointly promote China and Europe to jointly address global challenges. The CPC is willing to strengthen dialogue and exchanges with Spanish political parties to promote the deepening of relations between the two countries.

In the meeting in which Ambassador Betanzos participated, it was stressed that Spain and China have a friendly tradition and fruitful practical cooperation. Spain is willing to strengthen exchanges with China at all levels, deepen exchanges in the political, economic and commercial, cultural and other fields, and promote cooperation in agriculture, tourism, clean energy, electric vehicles and other projects, to promote further development of Spain-China relations. Spain is willing to play an active role in promoting dialogue and cooperation between the EU and Latin America and China.

The meeting was attended by Zhao Shitong, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of the People’s Republic of China.
