This article will investigate a variety of obstacles women encounter in fragile and conflict settings, ranging from violations of their human rights to challenges in maintaining their livelihoods. We will draw on case studies in Latin America, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Middle East to illustrate the variety of gender discriminations entrenched in conflict, and the need to acknowledge them to empower women to become agents of change.
